National Service Personnel in Ghana could receive a higher monthly allowance if a proposal by the National Service Authority (NSA) receives government approval.
The Authority is pushing for the monthly allowance to increase from the current GHS715 to at least GHS 1,200.
The proposal was disclosed by NSA Deputy Director-General Fuseini Donkor, who said the Authority has presented its case to the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.
Why Is the NSA Seeking an Increase?
The proposed adjustment is aimed at improving the welfare of National Service Personnel who serve across different parts of the country.
The Authority says the current allowance has become difficult for many personnel to manage, particularly as transportation and other living costs continue to rise.
National Service Personnel support organisations across sectors including education, health, agriculture, local government and public administration.
Is the GHS1,200 Allowance Approved?
No.

The GHS 1,200 is currently a proposal and has not been approved as the new monthly allowance.
Until the government approves an adjustment, National Service Personnel will continue to receive the existing allowance.
The NSA is hoping the proposed increase will receive favourable consideration during the 2026 budget process.
What Does This Mean for National Service Personnel?
If approved, the proposed increase would provide additional financial support to graduates undertaking their mandatory national service.
However, service personnel should not budget on the assumption that the GHS1,200 has already been approved. For now, the existing allowance remains applicable.
